boxing day

。。orz

EXP

x'mas@festival walk

snoopy

Shopping day。。。

- 跟著學數字﹕i-chi, ni, san, shi, go, ro-ku, shi-chi, ha-chi, kyuu, juu。
- i-ku-ra de-su ka?
- o-na-ka su-i-ta。。。
- o-i-shii!

Walk the Line

"Steady like a train, sharp like a razor." - That was how June Carter described Johnny Cash's music in "Walk the Line". Actually, that was exactly how I feel about this movie also. I went into the movie thinking I was going to see the biograhy on Cash's life. Well, I was kind of right, this movie is about how Cash came to realize his music and destiny, but it's also a love story of Johnny and June. The story is very subtle, nothing really dramatic, even when there's a fight going on, the director really played it down. However, doesn't mean the story won't move you. In fact, I don't think I've been touched by a movie like this for a long time.

Reese Witherspoon did such a wonderful job as June Carter. She really showed us how torn she was. She had the worst luck in men, people at the time called her an abomination to the Christian community because of her divorce, yet she still acted tough and cheery, because she still had to raise her daughters. She loved Johnny the moment they met, yet she resisted him for the longest time. First because they were both married to other people, and later because he was a drug addict and she just couldn't risk her life with another disastrous relationship.

And Joaquin Phoenix was amazing also. You can really see the pain in his eyes and his facial expressions, whether it was when he couldn't beat the drug addiction, or when he couldn't bear the disappointment from his father. He probably started loving June when he was 12 listening to her on the radio, but he just didn't know it yet until he met her for the first time. Once he laid his eyes on her, we all know that he's doomed.

Watching the two of them sing on stage was really cool, especially after I found out that Witherspoon and Phoenix really did sing the soundtracks. I never knew the two of them can sing! Sparks fly whenever the two of them are on stage together, and these two's chemistry really made this movie worked.

I also read that Johnny really did propose to June on stage in real life. That just made this love story even more romantic and sweet. It's a true story! :)

Chronicles of Narnia:The Lion,The Witch and The Wardrobe

From Yahoo! movies:
"Follows the exploits of the four Pevensie siblings--Lucy, Edmund, Susan and Peter--in World War II England who enter the world of Narnia through a magical wardrobe while playing a game of 'hide and seek' in the rural country home of an elderly professor. Once there, the children discover a charming, peaceful land inhabited by talking beasts, dwarfs, fauns, centaurs, and giants that has become a world cursed to eternal winter by the evil White Witch, Jadis. Under the guidance of a noble and mystical ruler, the lion Aslan, the children fight to overcome the White Witch's powerful hold over Narnia in a spectacular, climactic battle that will free Narnia from Jadis' icy spell forever."

Before I went to see this movie, I read that some reviews said this is "Passion of the Christ" and "Lord of the Rings" mixed into one movie. That turned me off a bit, as I to this day still refuse to watch "Passion of the Christ".

But in the end I was not sorry to have seen it. Turns out this movie was great fun! The sets and sceneries were beautiful, the casting was perfect, and how great it was to watch that battle scene! Seeing unicorns, fauns and other mythological creatures roaring and fighting really dazzled my eyes.

However, what I enjoyed the most out of this movie is actually the four main characters, Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy. Peter is the eldest, and the bravest one. Susan is the intelligent one, always trying to keep calm and do the right thing. Edmund is the rebellious one. Even though he almost went down the wrong path, he found his way back. And who can forget adorable little Lucy. She's sweet, forgiving and kind, and is also the one who discovered the world of Narnia. I loved how the four of them really grew up as the movie progressed. From their adventures and mishaps, they learned to appreciate having each other as family.

Yes, as the great lion Aslan dies for Edmund's sins, then later being resurrected from the dead, one has to wonder how this relates to a certain someone from the Bible. But why dwell on the deeper meaning of this movie, I say let's just let our imaginations run wild and have fun watching the magical world of Narnia!

The ending was very satisfying too, everything was summed up nicely. I can't wait til these children get back inside the wardrobe again. :) Now, I just need to watch "Walk the Line" and "King Kong", then I'm all ready to go on vacation!

beard papa

The Dukes of Hazzard

Everybody from the Hazzard County knows not to mess with a Duke. You've got the Duke boys Bo and Luke, who constantly get themselves in trouble with the sheriffs in town. You've got Daisy Duke with the short short shorts, who can distract any man alive AND kick their asses at the same time. The Duke's family business is moonshine, and the boys' Uncle Jesse concocts the tastiest brew in Dixie. This time, they're trying to save their farm and their neighbors' properties from the evil crooked commissioner Boss Hogg, and have some fun while doing it.

I've never watched the old "The Dukes of Hazzard" series, but have heard enough things about it that taught me not to expect too much of this movie. Yes, this movie is full of stupid jokes, car chases, naked girls and more stupid jokes. Just when you think Seann William Scott (the infamous "Stifler" from "American Pie") can't get any more stupid, he does something that's even more dumb. Don't get me wrong, it's funny nonetheless. Always thought Johnny Knoxville was a hottie back from MTV's "Jackass", but he's kind of a tool in this movie. Doesn't really do much the entire movie, cept being a jackass who whores around. Never really liked Jessica Simpson, always thought her super puffy lips are sooo fake, but she does an OK job as Daisy Duke I guess, since most guys will love the way she looks in those short shorts. Also, I love it that the legendary Willie Nelson is in the movie, and we get to hear him sing!

Oh yeah, the many many car chase scenes in the movie are wayyy cool and awesome~ And guys, there are lots of topless girls in this movie, need I say more? :P

In conclusion, this truly, truly is what you would call 105 minutes of mind-numbing entertainment. So have a cow, dude!

goodbye, gg

I heart Lost

I gotta say, I didn't think Jack had it in him, but that was the _HOTTEST_ kiss I've seen on TV for as long as I can remember. :P

Too bad Kate totally belongs with Sawyer, poor Jack! Kate really doesn't deserve either one of them~

This HAS to be the best hour on TV this season. "Lost" is the best! *sighhhh* (Yes, even better than "Grey's Anatomy"... sorry cb! hehe)

March of the Penguins

Before I watched the movie, everybody has been telling me that "March of the Penguins" is "cute","adorable" and "touching". After I watched the movie, I feel that besides cute, adorable and touching, this film is actually very very sad. I was kind of depressed during and after, and I don't think I'll be watching it again any time soon.

So these emperor penguins have to travel a long journey multiple times a year to mate and produce offsprings. They have to endure months of starvation and winter storms in order for their babies to survive. In the whole process, many babies die, and many of the adult penguins don't survive themselves. All the deaths and losses were too much for me, even though it's the reality. These penguins really have a harsh life! It was depressing for me because I feel that their whole life is revolved around this, and is all this really worth it? I guess seeing that seal eating up penguins didn't help either... (Although, it makes me appreciate the life I have a lot more. :P)

The movie made the whole "finding the other half" mating ritual to be a romantic journey, but how romantic can it really be if they find a new mate every year? And the slow-motioned close-up penguin sex was kind of gross....

Anyways, I'm not saying this is a bad movie, nor it was a waste of time for me to watch it. But, I didn't really enjoy it as much as other people did. While it is certainly a beautiful film, and the baby penguins are adorable, I guess I just don't quite have the appetite for the cold, dark and dangerous life in Antarctica.

請不要問我妳們要怎辦﹐因我會絕對偏激的告訴妳們﹐men are all fuckin assholes。

Prego Ristorante

Houston's

enough drama already

“。。。I'm still looking for something a bit more extraordinary than that。”

Yeah!

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Warning, in order to get a good seat at the IMAX theater for "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire", you'll have to start waiting in line 2 hours before show time. Luckily I had some good friends who waited in line for me, so I only had to stand out in the cold for 45 minutes, and still got excellent seat hehe.

This fourth installment of the movie series is entirely about the Triwizard Tournament. Three finalists were chosen by the Goblet of Fire, and then the Goblet spit out an unprecedented fourth name: Harry Potter's. This is against the rules, since you have to be 16 to compete in Triwizardry, and Harry is only 14. The question is, who entered Harry's name, since Harry said he didn't?

"The Goblet of Fire" is my favorite Potter book so far in the series. (Well, I'm still reading "The Half Blood Prince" so that might change soon) If you think the 3rd book was dark, this one only gets darker. So I'm going to be biased about this movie and say I liked it a lot! It's always a pleasure to look at the characters and plots that you love so much to transform onto the big screen. Harry, Ron and Hermione have grown up. Cedric Diggory and Victor Krum looked exactly like what I imagined they would be. Cho Chang only had a few lines in this movie, but I'm sure we all know how much people already love her. I was a bit disappointed at the actress they cast for Fleur Delacour. She's supposed to be this stunning beauty that can take your breath away, but in the movie she was actually kind of bland.

The special effects, settings and costumes were excellent as usual. The dragons, the mermaids and the maze were really cool looking. I liked the look of "The Prisoner of Azkaban" better, but this is still better than the "The Sorcerer's Stone" and "The Chamber of Secrets". Nothing against Chris Columbus, I just don't think he's the right director for these kind of movies.

Onto the problems with this film. Since this book was so much longer than the previous ones, there were way too many subplots that were left out of this movie. I know it's difficult to fit everything into a 2 hour movie, but it's still disappointing. Whatever happened to the whole house elves action stirred up by Hermione? What happened to the butterfly turning Rita Skeeter? Most importantly, where the heck is the last pivotal scene in the book where Dumbledore starts to gather his group which will later become the Order of Phoenix?! I feel that for people who have not read the books, this movie will be really confusing. It didn't really explain a lot of the backstories and characters. Thus I'm not surprised when my friends who did not read the book all told me they didn't think this movie was all that great. This film did a great job of transforming scenes from the book onto the big screen, but storytelling wise, it was scattered and confusing.

So, if you want to truly enjoy this movie, I'll definitely recommend reading the book first before you go. Trust me, it'll be well worth your time.

Blues
Been slipping deeper and deeper into a depression these last couple of weeks, and it got worse as I got sicker and sicker this week. I've only had one major depression my entire life, this is quickly becoming my second one. There are some things that I haven't had the need to deal with for so long, and now that I'm alone and have to face the truth, I don't know how to deal with them. This is worse than facing a break up, cuz it's facing the consequences of a break up.

Still feel like a dead dog with the cough and the sneezing and the stuffed up nose today, hopefully I'll be better tomorrow.

Harry Potter
Just saw the movie tonight on IMAX. Will have to talk about it later...

"Are you and D back together yet?"
"...what?"
"I know you guys are going to get back together!"
"...WHAT?!"
"Yeah! D loves you and you love him!"
"...seriously, WTF are you talking about?!!!!"
"Just a matter of time~"
"....RIGHT..."

Sushi Shibucho

P&P titbit

I promise, this will be the last post about this movie... :)

Anyways, I found out today that the American version of "Pride & Prejudice" is actually 8 minutes longer than the version they showed in Europe and Australia. We get the "sugar-coated" ending with a kissing scene, while nobody else does! hehehe, too bad you guys!

>>Read about it here

"If however your feelings have changed... I will have to tell you....you have bewitched me body and soul and I love...and love ..I love you....and never wish to be parted from you from this day on."
- Mr. Darcy

p.s. I really like this quote from a user review I stumbled upon:
"Mr. Darcy is an ass, but he is an ass in love, and here it seems like the distinction has been made."

Recently I've had the pleasure to catch several movie trailers that got me really interested, and I want to share with you all:

The Producers - This is a more mainstream movie, with Matthew Broderick, Nathan Lane and Uma Thurman. I'm sure a lot of people have already heard of the broadway musical, so no surprise here.

Mrs. Henderson Presents - The Germans are bombing London, yet widow Judi Dench has decided to open up a theater with girls dancing naked. Everybody thinks she doesn't care about the war, but the truth is, she probaby cares about it more than anybody else. Does the naked dance girl in the poster look familiar? That's cuz it's Kelly Reilly, the British girl in "L'Auberge Espagnole"!(She's also Bingly's sister in "Pride and Prejudice") I think this movie is going to be GOOD! :)

Shop Girl - When I first saw the movie ads in magazines, I was like... pssst, Steve Martin?! Not going to see it. But after seeing the trailer, I'm not so sure anymore... Claire Danes seems amazing in it.

Bee Season - I love Juliette Binoche, and I haven't seen Richard Gere since "Chicago". I think this movie will make me cry.

Ballets Russes - This is a documentary movie on the revolutionary 20th-century dance troupe known as the Ballets Russes. They began as a group of Russian refugees, who never danced in Russia, and became not one but two rival dance troupes. Seeing interviews with the real members of the group, now in old age, is amazing.
Ruth and JY, I think you'll really like this movie.

Breakfast on Pluto - OK, I know this is a weird movie, and Cillian Murphy is extremely creepy looking, especially when he dresses like a woman. But for some reason I really really want to see how this movie will turn out, hehe.

Pride & Prejudice

After freezing my behind off out in the cold to wait in line for more than an hour last night, I want to say that it was SO worth the wait.

It's difficult for me to write about this movie, because I loved it so much that I didn't know where to begin. Well, let's start from the story itself. I guess anybody who's mildly interested in this movie would already know what it's about, but here's a little recap again(taken from yahoo movies):
"The story takes place in the class-conscious England of the late 18th century. The five Bennet sisters--including strong-willed Elizabeth and young Lydia--have all been raised by their mother with one purpose in life: finding a husband. When a wealthy bachelor takes up residence in a nearby mansion, the Bennets are abuzz. Amongst the man's sophisticated circle of friends, surely there will be no shortage of suitors for the Bennet sisters. But when Elizabeth meets up with the handsome but snobbish Mr. Darcy, the battle of the sexes is joined."

I would say the movie stays close to the original plot for the most part. Some parts are missing, but that is expected in order to fit the story into a 2-hour movie. I liked it that the movie toned down Mrs. Bennet's constant embarrassing tones and behaviors, and limited the screen time for the ever annoying Wickham, since I really can't stand the two of them.

The cinematography was beautiful and eyes-captivating, the sceneries and sets were breathtaking, and every shot of the movie was so carefully calculated and seemed so free-flowing that you would think a lot of scenes were shot in one long swoop. I especially loved the ballroom dancing scenes. There were a lot of people in the room and could be very confusing, but the director successfully did his magic and had us focus on the main characters at all times without straining our eyes.

The casts were superb, especially Keira Knightley as Lizzy. I never really liked her, hated her in "Pirates of Caribbean" and "Love Actually". But here, she's the one person who really shined and carried most scenes. As the headstrong Elizabeth, she's intelligent, playful, cheery, yet passionate all at the same time. At the scene where she confronts Darcy's confession, you can really see the fire in her eyes, and it gets your blood boiling along with her. At the end, when she talks to Mr. Bennet about her love for Darcy, wow, it was so sweet and powerful that it almost made me cry. Unfortunately, with Knightley shining so bright, I feel that Matthew MacFadyen as Mr. Darcy was a bit over-shadowed by her. With Colin Firth's Darcy being so successful, it's hard for anyone to fill his shoes, but MacFadyen did it very well. You can't quite compare the two Mr. Darcy's, since MacFadyen played it with a slightly different tone. His Darcy is still dark, but there's a certain silly-ness about him that made us laugh, in a good way. He showed a lot more emotion through his actions, facial expressions and body language than Firth ever did. The way he went to see Lizzy for no reason at all, the scene where he touched her hand, and how when they're the only ones in each other's eyes while dancing in a room full of people; yikes, he will make your heart melt!

One thing though, loyal fans of the novel might not be so fond of the ending. Instead of a wedding, the movie invents a brand new ending scene that doesn't quite fit into a Jane Austen movie. I liked it though, it's romantic enough. :)

Tell you all a little secret, since my post from last night, I've actually watched this movie twice already. Call me crazy, but a little Jane Austen is always the best cure for those of us who have lost all hopes in classical old-fashioned romance.

I'm going I'm going I'm going!

When I saw the critic reviews for "Pride and Prejudice" this morning, I almost flipped out. They were phenomenal! All the critics raved about how wonderful this adaptation is. That was when I decided whether I have anybody to go with or not, I HAVE to watch this movie TONIGHT.

I thought this movie was opened everywhere today, but turns out it's only opened in selected theaters. But I thought, oh well, there shouldn't be too many people who would want to see this kind of movie anyways, so I didn't buy the ticket early.

Boy, was I wrong! I arrived at the theater half an hour before showtime, and it was SOLD out. The lines to enter the theater and to buy tickets were so long that it loops around the mall. This is INSANE!!! I did not know that there are so many Jane Austen fans out there? I was secretly hoping everyone in line was going to buy tickets for "The Squid and the Whale" or "Jesus Is Magic", but who am I kidding, everyone's there for "Pride and Prejudice"!

So, I got the next showing instead. It's 2 hours from now, but I figure I'll leave in about 15 minutes to go wait in line. I hate US theaters cuz they don't sell pre-assigned seats, everything is first-come first-served.

I am SO EXCITED!!!!!

my lucky day

6am. I was ready to go to work. Stepped outside my house, the door slammed close behind me. Looked down, no keys in my hands.

"SHIT!"

I've locked myself out. No house keys, no car keys, nothing. Cussed and banged on the door a few times, damn IT.

Luckily, I had my cell phone in my purse. Called my aunt, woke her up, had her rush over the spare house keys in her PJs.

While waiting for her to get here, it started to rain. It hasn't rained for more than a month, and it had to rain at this EXACT MOMENT. Of course, all the umbrellas were inside the house.

"SHIT!" again.

By the time I got the keys, got back inside my house to change, got into my car, started driving, it's already too late. TRAFFIC all the way to work.

That, my friend, was how today started for me. You can probably imagine what a lovely day it must've been. LOVELY.
